POWER & GRACE

CLARKSVILLE, TN

This master planning project consists of the reuse of an existing 2-story house and the conceptual design of the surrounding 9.66 acres, in Clarksville. The site has previously been residential use until Mrs. Stallworth got the property approved for educational use. The house is currently used for school activities with the hope that when the Academy campus is built, that the house will return to residential use.

Entry to the site expands on an existing drive ending at a circled drive or parking lot. This allows for drop off and queuing space as well as parking for teachers and visitors. Keeping the vehicular circulation outside of the school grounds as much as possible also limits children’s interaction on the roads which increases safety.

As a Christian school, a goal of Mrs. Stallworth’s and the Power and Grace Preparatory Academy, is to have the church at the heart of the school. Creating a central axis from the existing house to the chapel not only creates a line of site at the students entry to the chapel, but also creates a garden space between the chapel and education buildings, effectively creating a heart of the school. The gymnasium is the last building on the site as it’s connection to the property involves outdoor play space and a trail along the back of the property and into the adjacent University Conservatory.
